Members DamianB
Hello. I've used an e-mu for years, and recently the external hd is not spinning up. Lights on. Sampler sees it as asleep... 'zzzz'. I need to get data off it if it's gone. BUT in meantime, any advice re: - how to re-wake hd - what to advise a company to retrieve data in terms of what file system is used?
Phil O'Keefe
Have you checked the SCSI interface yet with another drive to make sure that's working correctly? What happens when you power up the disk drive? Does it spin up? Does it make any noise at all? Do you get a power-on indicator? The first thing you need to do is to determine where the problem lies, and the easiest way to do that is to substitute known working components for some of the ones in your system until you find the one that is the cause of the problem. If it's the SCSI interface, you will probably need a new (used) SCSI card for the sampler, but your data should be okay. If it's the sampler, you may need to reset / reboot, or repair / replace it. If it's the drive itself, you may have to resort to a data recovery service to get your data back if you don't have backups of it. And that can be expensive. I can't say for certain, but it sounds like it is indeed the drive in your case. Here's an article with some tips on how to recover data from a non-operating HDD. https://lifehacker.com/5982339/diy-data-recovery-tricks-for-when-your-hard-drive-goes-belly-up As far as the E-Mu sampler disk file format, it's proprietary IIRC, but it depends on which specific sampler you have. http://www.chickensys.com/translator/documentation/formatinfo/emu.html
