Members -Ed Phobes- Posted February 9, 2018 Members Posted February 9, 2018 I've got a floor tom that I think is 1960s Japanese, but I'm not sure. Tapered shell - 16-inch top head, 14-inch bottom head. Three-ply shell w/reinforcing rings. I know Vox/Trixon made drums like this, but the hardware indicates otherwise, though it may be replacement lugs. Does anyone know if anyone other than Vox/Trixon made drums like this? Thx

Members Voltan Posted February 11, 2018 Members Posted February 11, 2018 looks pretty cool! does the taper have an effect on the tuning or sound?

I suppose it does...I never really played it with a kit. It's probably not unlike tuning the reso head extra tight on a normal drum. Playing the 14" side might be interesting, though - super boomy sustain with the 16" reso.
