Keytar help!!

Recommended Posts

I've come across an awesome vintage Korg Keytar! I can't play hardly at all, but want it to make noise!! It came with a MIDI cable only.... what do I need to do (affordably) to be able to shred??? I know I need an external synthesizer or sound module, but don't want to spend $600! Any shortcuts out there for a novice??

It's a Korg Remote Keyboard RK-100

Everything I've looked for takes me to the RK-100S, which has a sound module built in... this is the old school versio. I guess.

Not sure if comment came thru, but it's a Korg RK-100.

All searching I've done takes me to RK-100S which is a newer model..... I need something to go from midi OUT on Keytar and end up in a speaker/amp....

There are several options. Use the midi converter I previously postef and go into a computer and then from the computer into a speaker system (PA, Keyboard Amp etc) Then buy sampletank, Komplete Elements or any number of virtual instruments. Or use a sound module the are tons of these available at many price points a search on ebay for EMU proteus 2000 gave me several under $200. There is also the Waldorf Rocket http://www.fullcompass.com/prod/231740-Waldorf-Music-Rocket or any of the Roland Boutique series. These will plug directly into the RK-100 midi out and any amp or mixer board or powered speaker you choose.

Live or studio? I have a Roland AX-7 and I bought a Yamaha MIDI bluetooth adapter (below) which allows me to use my iPad as a synth module. There are tons of great cheap/free apps. Some will work on an iPhone as well.
