Members etcetra
So I was asked to play a latin piece by this composer for an upcoming gig and I am really struggling with it. I am not an expert on Latin Jazz but I've played gigs over the years to know the basics of playing montuno on the piano. The problem is that the composer wants the motuno as written and it just doesn't sound right. Whatever it is, it sound so far removed from the basic montuno rhythm that it doesn't make sense and I just don't hear how it fits with the clave. I was wondering if people here with serious experience with Latin music can let me know if it's just me or if there is something wrong with these montunos. Members bubbajazz
Just giving this a quick look, and...they both look to me like the composer is using a compound clave, reversed in the second two measures. See if that makes sense in context.
