Another stupid Ohm question

But here's the thing. Speaker impedance is not fixed at just 8 ohms or whatever. An 8 ohm speaker typically runs the range of about 6 to about 40 ohms as the frequency changes. What you need to know is the minimum impedance at any frequency would present to the amp AND if the amplifier is comfortable operating there. It's all trade offs.

 

btw ... the minimum impedance of a speaker system would be it's DC resistance value.

Keep in mind, 2/3 rds or the power will go to the 4 ohm cabinet and 1/3 rd to the 8 ohm.

 

 

You are correct and if the OP is lucky, the 8 ohm box will be 2 to 3db more efficient and it will work out about right.

 

Ah Ha your post was to warn about power handling capabilities of the speakers......... Good call.
