Members Mandolin Picker
I was around 8 years old when Kay was released, and I remember hearing it on the radio. It was re-released it in 1978 (the year I graduated high school), but I like the version from 1968 much better. The line that always choked me up (and still does) is the one just before the line you quoted; "Two rose petals on my front seat fallen from the bouquet Jimmy took to June Jim kept mumbling through his tear drops God she'll leave this world with flowers in her room"
Members Etienne Rambert
It's the Moby Dick of Country music, afaic. I was 16 at the time, a redneck kid freezing somewhere in Utah. The singer was only two years older than me. The first time I heard it was like when I first started reading the Brothers Karamazov. You understand why an art form is important, Russian fiction or American country music. Kay showed me that. If Clearchannel was around back then, it never would have gotten on radio. I doubt big country stations would play it today either. Hard to top those lyrics though.
