Members thatsbunk
I don't think he's using a 12 string there, but prolly some kind of dropped tuning to make it sound "drone-ey"also lots of reverb...
Members Freeman Keller
I wondered if anyone would note the "rock" emphasis... or mention Leo Kottke. Start here [video=youtube_share;tew_fIhz3eY] I don't hear any jangles, do you?

Members humbuckerstrat
Yes, the whole album is very reverb-y.
Members Freeman Keller
OK, here is totally bizarre timing. I was just watching local evening news and apparently there is new showing of photographs of David Bowie opening in Seattle. They had the photographer on (this is Seattle, after all, and apparently a big deal) and in the back ground were flashing some of his photos. Up pops one with the glam rocker in a shear tee shirt making that captain marvel goggle eyes with his upside down hands holding a 12 string guitar (looked to be a Guild jumbo but the head wasn't quite right). Somehow I missed Bowie in the list of great rock and roll 12 string players but listen up boys (and girls?), you too can dye your hair red, put on you makeup and play a 12 string. Members Jazzer2020
Start here [video=youtube_share;tew_fIhz3eY] I don't hear any jangles, do you? It's funny how each of our experiences are colored differently. Though I am familiar with each of the 12 songs listed in the original article, the first AND ONLY thing (songs) I thought about when asked this question was LEO KOTTKE. To me he and the 12-string guitar are synonymous. When he plays the 12 string it sounds like an orchestra. All the others, it just sounds like a 12 -string guitar. Members AJ6stringsting
I love the way he accents his notes, the dynamics and his note selection. He's no Yngwie Malmsteen or Steve Vai, but live, Mike Campbell delivers the goods even better 👍Big influence on me.

Members GAS Man
Freeman's other thread on 12-strings reminded me of the 12-string guitar song I've actually spent the most time playing - like "duh" [video=youtube;yoxHGxQw9ws]
Phil O'Keefe
Speed isn't everything. Taste and tone, and being able to come up with just the right parts to make the song by supporting it are what Mike is really a master at. I'd rather hear than than speed for speed's sake any day
Phil O'Keefe
The first time Roger McGuinn heard "American Girl" his response was "when did I record that?" http://www.kansas.com/entertainment/music-news-reviews/article1142008.html
