New PA system - Cuts out vocals

Installed a new PA system for our Elementary school but ran into an issue.

I threw in a burned CD only to find it sounded like poo. The empty, lots of highs, low vocals. Find one song on the CD that sounded fantastic and EQ'd to that figuring the rest were low bit rate. Turns out they were all iTunes songs. Then put in a CD (kids bop) and the same thing, an official store bought CD, sounded like a bassless karaoke track, almost completely cutting out the vocals. With the EQ on OR off, doesn't matter.

Now what's weird, again, one track sounded fantastic. Also the wireless mics sound great as well.

Here's the setup:

-Rack CD player (older, not sure the model)

-dbx 231S dual EQ

-Alesis MultiMix 12R mixer

-Crown XLS2500 amp

-2x JBL 15" JRX115 speakers mounted on wall, spaced out abut 30-40 feet. Hooked up via Speakon

SweetWater thought maybe it was a phasing issue but it still happens if I pan to just the left or right speaker.

Thanks guys.

The PA wasn't designed by Lacy Thompson was it?

(He invented and built the "LT Sound Vocal Eliminator that they use to sell the the back of music magazines. he also made an Incredible Noise Gate and Compressor, but man were they expensive!!
