Members 1001gear
. I've read that data on shelved inert SSDs will eventually go south. I want to clone my system to a second ssd while it is still compact and keep one or the other as a backup. What if I just leave the backup running in the computer? Is this wise or even necessary? Phil O'Keefe
Hmmm... good question! I think there are some definite risks with leaving it in the computer - if you get a virus or other major problem (major power surge from a lightning strike, etc.), it could take down anything connected to the system, including the backup. Maybe all you need to do is to power it up occasionally?
Members 1001gear
You're right. Even if there was no data connection, being powered would leave it vulnerable to voltage issues. I'll have a dock with the next SSD so plugging it in periodically shouldn't be a problem. Thanks.
