Speaker cables in place of instrument cables ???

I know you should not use a regular instrument cable as a speaker cable, but can you use a heavy speaker cable in place of an instrument cable ? I have some regular heavy speaker cables that have 1/4" plugs on them and wondered if I can use them to run the signal from a mixer to a powered speaker ? Will it work ok, or should I use a regular instrument cable ?

Thank you

It will probably work... you can be the judge. There is likely little if anything to be concerned about as-far as "damage" by doing this... the only things would be possible signal degredation or excessive strain on the jacks due to the heavy cable.

If you plug it in and it sounds fine to you, it's probably fine.

instrument cables probably arent right either........i'm betting you need balanced either TRS or XLR

yup. If the mixer has XLR's on the mains and the powered speaker does as well, and any worth using will, you would want to use an XLR cable. A) they lock in place and 2) it's one less type of cable to carry.
