Hey Dendy - I rode on the bus up to GearFest last week. It has wi-fi and a good space for getting work done. When you go down the road, you can see people in cars taking pictures of the bus...and it's always a great conversation-starter at truck stops,

Well, it's Saturday afternoon, my workshops are done, and the show's about to wind up. But there's always time to catch just one more performance...it may be a trade show, and yes it's about the commerce, but it's really all about the music.

Winter NAMM, although Summer NAMM sometimes seems like a giant Hall E with all the little booths with new products from mad scientists...I suspect Summer NAMM is less expensive to attend, so the Winter NAMM show may present more of a barrier to entry for smaller companies. However, also note that the Nashville show isn't as crazed or filled with people, so it's easier to get quality time with manufacturer demos and such.

Of course, the presence of the esteemed Dr. Nermark automatically raises the desirability of attending that particular show.

But wait! There's more! We just received a bunch of additional photos from Brigitte Laskowski, with even MORE gear. So here we go, starting with foot percussion from Adoro drums. Strap 'em to your feet, and tap to the beat.

Ortega Guitars make things that look like stomp boxes, but trigger percussion sounds (with velocity sensitivity, too!). The Horse Kick Pro has five sampled sounds, while the standard Horse Kick samples a Cajon Bass sound. Both have non-slip bottom coatings.

Acoustic Solutions showed their ASG-150 mixer/amp for live performance that has two XLR mic ins and two instrument ins. The four-channel mixer includes onboard reverb and EQ, and drives an 8-inch woofer and compression tweeter. Maximum output is 150 watts peak.

Solomon Mics has taken the idea of using a speaker "in reverse" as a kick drum mic, and ran with it. The LoFReQ kick drum mic is purpose-built from the ground up to provide "that speaker sound" in something more convenient than dangling a speaker in a box.

I'm not sure why unusual basses were such a trend at NAMM, but here's another one: The Wing Bass, a half-scale bass designed for travel, practice, and performance.
