Members GustavoWoltmann
There's alot of talk about "a) make a band ... b) play shows ... c) win your grammy" and whatnot. Where do we even begin when it comes to forming a band? What if I know 0 musicians in my area? Any thoughts are welcome

Moderators daddymack Posted June 6, 2016 Moderators Share Posted June 6, 2016 To answer the OP...finding musicians that are like-minded, at the same skill level, have gig-able gear, etc. is always a challenge, even in a major city. Craigslist is one way, Musician's Contact Service [https://www.musicianscontact.com/] is another. Hang out at local music stores and put up ads there [they usually have a cork board or similar], go to open jams, open mic nights, go to local venues that have live music similar to what you want to play [don't go to a jazz club looking for death metal players] and don't be shy; the name of the game is....network, network, network! Depending on your primary instrument [oboists and bagpipers are always in demand, right?], check your local colleges and universities, there are typically a number of contactless musicians there desperate to find people to play with. Before any of this, have a plan as to what you want to do musically. If you want to play Classic Rock, don't hook up with hard core country musicians...although there is definitely some overlap, it will prove unsatisfying in the long run.
