Members humbuckerstrat
Great tone, and a beautiful guitar. The bass player sure held his bass funny, tho
Members onelife
I remember reading an old article about Robben Ford who I first became knowingly aware of with the "Tom Cat" album. [video=youtube;hrMdaHWbYhw] He talked about using the Super 400 and a Twin Reverb. He said he was using a lot of pedals so he would turn the amp up all the way to make up for any losses incurred through the pedals. It's hard for me to fathom a Super 400 though a cracked up Twin but he certainly was able to tame it down and do wonders with it. I said "knowingly aware" because I had heard some of the work he had done with Joni Mitchell and really liked the guitar parts in the songs but did not realize it was him. Members humbuckerstrat
That's the way I play my V when I play it sitting down (which is all the time).
Members onelife
A very bland solo in my view. I thought it was pretty good for a guy barely in his twenties at the time. Of course he's no Joe Joe Bonamassa - but that's probably a good thing (in my view). [video=youtube;tWZf7FW0JjM] It's good when guitar players play wind instruments too because they know how to let the music breathe.
Members guitarcapo
Feedback could be a problem...and kind of a huge tool for the task at hand. Kind of like hauling firewood in a Porsche convertible. Technically possible...but why? Give me a nice Telecaster.
Members humbuckerstrat
This thread inspired me to pick up my Hohner Hollowbody, I haven't done that in awhile. I enjoyed playing it.

When I listen to Eric Gale play his Super 400, I can understand why but for someone like me a semi or solid will do. Members BG76
Clapton played one on Concert for Bangladesh. Not sure why it's so surprising. Great guitar with PAFs (or early patent numbers). I have a couple (blonde and sunburst). Great guitars.
Members onelife
Clapton was playing a Byrdland which is like a thinline version of the L-5 CES. It's easier to manage at higher volumes and was Ted Nugent's guitar of choice. The Byrdland is hollow with a solid top like the Super 400 but has a shorter scale and narrow fingerboard to make some of those jazz grips a little easier to reach.
