Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted February 24, 2016 Moderators Share Posted February 24, 2016 I love my LL6, not even a 16, but it does everything that body size and shape offers to me. I like my 12th fret join parlour guitars, but I've never heard a guitar as good as our (mine and my son's) Faith Venus, for money I could ever afford, and a very well known recording artist agrees
Members Glenn F
I've never played a Yamaha that impressed me. I am sure some of their higher-end stuff might make me take notice, but their standard stuff...meh. As for cheaper Martins being crap, I would have to disagree, unless one is talking about their HPL models, which I wouldn't touch with a bargepole. The 15 line is excellent, and if you find one, their 'M' Road Series. I would recommend a 2nd hand DM or 000-M (I have the latter). Very high bang for the buck. I can't believe the tone I get from my 000-M.
Members gardo
That certainly is bonding with your guitar.. I've never quite gone that far but will admit to putting my first half decent acoustic in the corner of my bedroom so I could see it when I woke up
Members garthman
Hey Ratae - thanks for the welcome. We grown ups spend most of our time at the other place {wink thingy}
Members DeepEnd
I generally don't care for the lower end (HPL) Martins but a local Guitar Center had a D1GT for $799 last year as a "manager's special" that I really liked. I've never really been drawn to Taylors for whatever reason and I can take or leave Gibson acoustics. A used Yairi is a good bet too but, again, you need to know guitars and what to look for. Members Notes_Norton
I have a couple of Electric/Acoustic archtops (Gibson ES-330 and Epiphone Casino). They don't count in this thread, because they aren't really nice acoustics, they are really nice electrics that have an acoustic feature. Would I like a really nice acoustic? If you mean a flat-top with a round tone hole, the answer is "No". I have a Japanese Epiphone flattop that I bought decades ago that I never-ever play. I'm just not an acoustic player. I'm sure it's because I'm not a total guitarist. It's my seventh instrument and I've put 99% of my practice time on electric. If I want to figure something out without plugging in an amp, I reach for one of the archtops. It gets the job done. I love hearing a good acoustic, but it's not something I'm attracted to playing. However, if I win the lottery or someone recognizes the talent I like to think I have and uses it to make me dirty, rotten, stinking rich, I'd probably buy a nice acoustic just to have one, keep it in a glass case, and take it out once every few years. Members Grant Harding
acoustic guitars are cool. i want a high quality one like a gibson, taylor, or martin or whatever. but i'd want one in the future. its nice to have one beside your bed and you can strum on it once in a while. lol.If you're going to get one I definitely recommend the future in terms of a high level timeframe. The past can be problematic on several levels that I can't explain until last week.
Members Grant Harding
I agree about the LL6. Mine is a really nice guitar. Loud, big bass, balanced across the whole fretboard. It's certainly a lot of guitar for the $350 USD I paid for it used.
