Phil O'Keefe
I was able to sneak into the Fender booth early along with the dealers courtesy of my good friend (and Fender Custom Shop Master Builder) Dennis Galuszka. The very first thing I spotted was this cool "exploded" Strat display. Dennis shows off one of his creations. Apparently the deep etched wood is achieved by a lady back east who hits it with thousands of volts of electricity. I asked about the amperage and, well let's just say this falls squarely in the "do not try this at home" category.
Phil O'Keefe
I really liked this P-Bass. Look! A full-scale (25.5") Jaguar!

Phil O'Keefe
What's with the jewel-encrusted guitars lately? This one also has a music box in it that I think Dennis secretly wanted to throw out the window of his helicopter (in addition to being a great builder and solid drummer, he's also a pilot) from 10,000 feet. Phil O'Keefe
Here's my friend (and like Dennis, another sometimes musical collaborator) Mike Geoghegan. With him is yet another Custom Shop employee, Josefina Campos, who took over the Custom Shop pickup wiring when her mentor Abigail Ybarra retired. I can't find one anywhere - probably because someone used them all for this cool artwork.

Phil O'Keefe
Anyone who knows me well knows that seafoam green is my favorite custom color, so anything that's painted in that hue is going to draw me like a magnet.
Phil O'Keefe
I'm also rather fond of bound Telecasters, although I think I prefer them in regular Candy Apple Red instead of this more heavily sparkled version.

Phil O'Keefe
Gibson's 2016 models seemed to be a huge hit - the booth was so busy / crowded, I had a hard time getting pictures. Fortunately I was able to squeeze in and sneak a few... the flame on the Les Paul on the left was particularly striking - and the photos just don't do it justice. The new Firebirds are extremely tempting... lucky for me (and my wallet) that they didn't release a non-reverse model or I don't think I would have been able to restrain myself... Gibson's other brands are also in the same general area, including Stanton... ...and KRK, who had their whole range of impressive ROKIT G3 monitors on display. Neat microphones was also there, and I had an opportunity to hear some of their distinctive looking products. The mic cables were much beefier than I was expecting. George Jetson called - he wants his microphones back. The new Neat Widget USB microphones definitely have a retro-futuristic vibe to them.
Phil O'Keefe
The line to sit upon the throne was quite long... The new Explorer was also hitting all the right buttons to fuel my G.A.S.
