EMS' Peter Zinovieff - The inventor of one of the most famous synthesisers of all the time, the VCS3- has been involved in the making of a new Midi Controller "Touché" by Expressive E

"I work for a young company named « Expressive E», located in Paris. We are developing a new kind of musical controller named « Touché » which will be unveiled for the first time at the NAMM SHOW 2016. Touché, is an innovative controller, a revolution in how you play with software and hardware synthesizers by offering extremely precise and sensitive gesture controls. Its wood surface was designed to react to the smallest vibration, the slightest pressure of your hand, allowing synth players to shape sounds spontaneously as with an acoustic instrument.

A great number of artists (Adrian Utley (Portishead), John Baggott (Massive Attack, Robert Plant) , Rone, Matt Robertson (Björk), etc.) already agree on the fantastic potential of this product : Touché appears as a breath of fresh air in the world of MIDI controllers!"

Not a rumor. We'll be there demonstrating ToneDexter through a monitoring system using 8 pairs of noise cancelling headphones. Each station will allow the listener to A/B audition between processed and raw pickup sounds, at will. That method worked very well at Summer NAMM. I hope to see some of you there.

For those not yet familiar with the technology, here's a demo:

  • Dwarfcraft will be debuting the Twin Stags and Necromancer.
  • Dr No Effects have been teasing an analogue delay pedal on their Instagram
  • Strymon: also teased a new pedal, could be a pitch-shifting pedal, or more likely a phaser,
  • Joel of Chase Bliss Audio is trying to finish a prototype of a new pedal before NAMM, a delay or reverb device most likely.
  • Earthquaker Devices released a teaser of their new products;
    • The Bellows = Fuzz Driver
    • Bows = Germanium Preamp

Fodera-Monarch-P-Bass-Body-620x465.jpg?624653Fodera will be presenting the new Monarch-P model. Based on their Monarch four-string bass, the Monarch-P is a Standard model with a vintage split-coil sound. The bass will be built with a classic tone-wood combination of an alder body, a maple neck, and an Indian Rosewood fingerboard. The top is created from book-matched Ivorywood. Several design modifications from the original Monarch bass set the P model apart with unique body contours, a slightly thicker neck, and 22 frets.

Its passive electronics include an in-house wired circuit with 250k solid shaft pots, a 0.047uf capacitor and 1/4” input jack. Fodera picked an Aguilar AG 4P-60 pickup with early 60’s P-Bass tone in mind.“All of the hardware is completely proprietary including the high-mass Standard bridge. Additionally the Monarch-P is built with a control cavity so that if you wanted to add a preamp down the road there is a place to do it.

The Fodera Monarch-P will be built in the company’s custom shop as part of their Standard series.

the new E-MU will be eurorack Moog ladder filter

unnamed.png

"EVOLUTION is Dave’s updated take on his classic enhancement of Bob Moog’s iconic ladder filter.

At the core of EVOLUTION is Dave’s unique implementation of the Moog ladder filter from the original E-mu Systems 2100 LPF module (which, incidentally, Dave counts as his favorite of all of the analog filters he designed).

For EVOLUTION, Dave has designed new capabilities that not only allow users to dial in all of the outstanding qualities of the original 2100, but combine to let them create the sonic characteristics of a wide variety of other filter types. They include:

– A Genus control that allows continuous voltage control of the number of filter poles (from 3 to 6 poles), essentially allowing real-time variation of Evolution’s effective cutoff slope from 18dB/oct to 36dB/oct. LEDs give continuous indication of the current slope.

– A Species control that allows voltage control of the signal level into Evolution’s unique distortion circuitry.

– Voltage controlled resonance with a variable Q Level Compensation control that controls of the balance of the resonant signal and the frequencies below the cutoff frequency (which would otherwise be attenuated as the resonance is increased).

– An extremely accurate and temperature-stable frequency control exponential generator, rivaling the specifications of the best analog VCOs.Taken together, EVOLUTION gives everything from the platonic ideal of the classic ladder filter to an almost unlimited variety of alternative filter characteristics."
