Im new to this section but got some questions

I have a Mackie VLZ 1202 which i would like to update

thinking about sound craft,allen heath...

I use the mixer for several keyboards & sound modules only

 

 

also want to update my MAudio Bx8a monitors for some powered P.A. spkrs thinking of the EVs ZXa1..... Its for small venues,worship halls

 

any advice would be helpful

What are you looking for in a mixer? more mono XLR channels? Auxes? EQ?

 

Seems like the mixer in a keyboard rig is pretty basic, some stereo channels, maybe an aux, EQ isnt really used much at all. The 1202 is a perfect little mixer for that setup, built like a tank too.

 

Are you using the Bx8a's live? if yes the a pair of zx1a's (or zx3a's) would be much better. Yes the Bx8a's are studio quality but they are limited with the volume you'll get from them, they aren't meant for your app.

I just wondered if there was anything better out there for my keys for sound quality reasons only, the 1202

was fine for everything else.

Mixers really don't have a "sound" per se, but changing the speakers will have the most effect. Try that first, I'd only change the mixer if the ergonomics of the 1202 weren't what you wanted.

ZX1A + ZX1A sub and you'll have a stellar KB sound although just the ZXA1 would work but way better for low end response adding the ZX1A sub.

I own SXA line with a microKorg into midi foot controller for some single note KB stuff since I play bass. Just I can't sing like Geddy can.
