Members oldgitplayer
Zep surely would have given credit to the songwriter on 'Dazed & Confused', but they stated themselves on 'Black Mountainside' which is a direct lift from Bert Jansch's 'Black Waterside' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xSnhJHgm7Y But given that Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were the session musicians on Donovan's 'Sunshine Superman' album recorded in 1964 (released only in 1966 because of contractual problems). I think the combination of Donovan, Micky Most as producer and the 2 mentioned lads was dynamite.Page also played on 'Hurdy Gurdy Man'.
Members rhino55
From wiki: Jansch followed his first album with two more, produced in quick succession:It Don't Bother Me and Jack Orion[20]—which contained his first recording of "Blackwaterside", later to be taken up by Jimmy Page and recorded by Led Zeppelin as "Black Mountain Side".[21] Jansch says: "The accompaniment was nicked by a well-known member of one of the most famous rock bands, who used it, unchanged, on one of their records."[22] Transatlantic took legal advice about the alleged copyright infringement and were advised that there was "a distinct possibility that Bert might win an action against Page".[23] Ultimately, Transatlantic were dubious about the costs involved in taking on Led Zeppelin in the courts, and half the costs would have had to be paid by Jansch personally, which he simply could not afford, so the case was never pursued

Members oldgitplayer
J.S.Bach used the chord progression in a Bouree for lute. It has been used many times in different ways for over 300 years now.The opening of 'Stairway' is just a portion of it but in a different time signature and rhythm. Members oldgitplayer
Yeh sure - the legal mind will be far superior to the musician or musicologist's mind when it comes to assessing musical melody, harmony, rhythm and the historic place of descending bass lines.
