Members Anderton Posted March 31, 2016 Author Members Posted March 31, 2016 Time to remind everyone that "The Wrecking Crew" is still available on Netflix. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor. It really encapsulates a period of time when music was very different than it is now...I was very very fortunate to meet some of those people, and they were as cool as they seem in the movie. Cooler, actually. As Hal Blaine said, "If you love your work, it's not work."
Members davd_indigo Posted March 31, 2016 Members Posted March 31, 2016 Related to the Wrecking Crew, I came across this extended interview with Carol Kaye some time back. She mixes anecdotes with musical illustrations on electric bass and guitar.
Phil O'Keefe Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 What's "I Dream Of Wires" about? I haven't heard about that one previously.
Members techristian Posted March 31, 2016 Members Posted March 31, 2016 I saw it over a month ago. It is all about early and modern ANALOG synthesizers and the geeks that tweak them. There is also a bit about the Buchla VS Moog paradigm. Dan
Phil O'Keefe Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Aah... those kinds of wires. I was thinking along the lines of studio patchbays (shows where my biases are... ) and not about modular analog synth patchbays. Thanks Dan!
CMS Author MikeRivers Posted April 2, 2016 CMS Author Posted April 2, 2016 Aah... those kinds of wires. I was thinking along the lines of studio patchbays (and not about modular analog synth patchbays. And I was thinking of wires as in guitar strings, like the bluegrass band Wood and Wire.
Members AlamoJoe Posted April 3, 2016 Members Posted April 3, 2016 And I was thinking about Samuel Morse and Telegraph Wires...
Phil O'Keefe Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 And I was thinking about Samuel Morse and Telegraph Wires... Careful Joe, you're giving away your age...
Members AlamoJoe Posted April 4, 2016 Members Posted April 4, 2016 I'm so old, I remember when Smoke Signals were the way to communicate...
Members Ernest Buckley Posted April 5, 2016 Members Posted April 5, 2016 "The Wrecking Crew" and "I Dream of Wires" are on Netflix. You're welcome! Very cool, thanks for the update Craig. I read the Wrecking Crew book 3-4 years ago and then saw the movie. Its really an amazing story and an enjoyable read. I Dream of Wires... never heard of it but can`t wait to see it. If anyone is into this sort of thing, Analog Days (http://www.amazon.com/Analog-Days-Invention-Impact-Synthesizer/dp/0674016173) is a great read as well. I know theres a Bob Mood documentary on YT... if you have not seen it, I highly recommend it.
