Members Idunno
Pretty much, that says it all.
Members Freeman Keller
I keep one resonator and my lap slider in open D. A cool thing that you probably already know is that if you know a song in open G, move it up (away from the floor) one string, ie anything that you normally play on the first string moves to the second. Immediately doubles your repertoire.
Members groovezilla
Yeah, I've never been able to get open D to not sound like open D. Laurence Juber does some amazing things with it though.
Members kwakatak
Just put some Waverly's on your guitar and you'll want to tune it.
Members Misha
You're Lucky: I can't get out... of the office! (23: 00). There's always an emergency before I can leave out for vacations! Seriously, I can't get out of the E scale... (Well, sometimes I go to A...) !! :-(
Members Misha
And I have a real hard time posting comments on this site! My cellphone allows me to comment but not to edit and my computer allows me to edit but not to comment!
Members Idunno
Freeman, trying to follow your open G comment but I'm not visualizing it; probably because I don't tune to open G. Using a slide is on my bucket list.
Members garthman
Hey Suzie - good to see you. Yeah, this posting issue is the same in the UK and apparently most of the world except the US. I posted a thread about it. A real PITA. Joe - open D - it will wear off.
Members Idunno
I'm learning all kinds of new chord fingerings and may (probably won't) ferret out their names one day. I'll move back to standard when I tire of the drone strings. For now, I'm addicted to it. Misha, send a PM to one of the mods if you haven't already. Maybe their tech guru's forgot to throw a binary switch or something. Neil, I get it. I need to replace 9 fret wires first, though.
Members DeepEnd
Cheers. Enjoy. Never tried open anything but I just set up one of my guitars in Gambale tuning and I'm having fun with it.
Members garthman
Joe. No binary switch. The tech gurus know about the problem - for some time - and are working on it. No joy to date.
Members garthman
Joe. In effect the chord shapes are the "same" in both tunings but for open G you play them one string down towards the 1st string. So say if you play a D chord in open D as 054300, then a G chord in open G will be 005430. Works for all the related chords too.
Members Idunno
DE - Gambale, check. I got the link and will explore it. Howard - Wie gehts? Henry's Geek Squad stumped? Any feedback from the Mod Squad yet? On the D tuning wearing off...duration?
Members garthman
1st bit - yeah & nope. 2nd bit -varies a lot. For me a few months but it was quite a while ago. When I stray from standard now, I prefer double-drop D to open D.
Members Misha
Thank's for your help Garthman and Idunno! At least I can comment! I think at the office I don't have that problem but... "unfortunately" I'm on vacations! ;-) :-D
