Members whitusje Posted June 10, 2015 Members Posted June 10, 2015 After 3 years of percussion in school, I bought my daughter a drum kit. it is a Yamaha Power V, made in England. It has a 12" tom mounted and I would like to find another one to mount. The drums are silver. I havent saw any on eBay or Craigslist, where would a good place to start looking, and would you reccomend a 13" or 14"?Thanks in advance
Members twosticks Posted June 11, 2015 Members Posted June 11, 2015 Hello, Whit! I live in the USA and have always loved Yamaha drums! The Power V series seems to be a special one of or limited edition series drum series made in the old English Premier Drums factory???http://mikedolbear.com/story.asp?StoryID=3394
Members twosticks Posted June 11, 2015 Members Posted June 11, 2015 To answer your question more specifically, it seems that Yamaha, took over the Premier facilities after Premier went bankrupt in the early 90's making you finding an "exact" match of an extra tom much like finding a part for a 1978 MGB? First, I would check on line for English Yamaha sets, check with local music shops or antique places?? Second would be drum makers or hardware makers like Gibraltar, that make generic or "Universal" tom mount arms that would allow another drum makers tom to be added to the Special V set you have?? Second, As far as a 13" or 14", that would depend on your daughter's style of playing and what kind of music she plays to play in the future?? Does the set have a floor tom? (a tom that has legs that sits on the floor) In most normal instances, a 13" is a normal choice, if the music played is heavier or is more need for a bigger "more bottom end sound" is desired, then you might go with the 14" tom. KEEP in mind that the depth of the drum as well as the type of head and tuning of the heads will make a big difference as well. A big drum with thin heads and tight tuning can sound smaller than a smaller drum with thicker heads and tuned low is what I'm saying and as long as we're talking drums that are really close in size like a 13" or 14" drum. Hopes this helps and let us know if you have any more questions! ;-)

Members Dendy Jarrett Posted June 11, 2015 Members Posted June 11, 2015 whitusje: Being in the US, this "special" version of the Yamaha drums are something we have limited knowledge regarding. At first pass, these look like they have a specific lug casing and a very different tom mount than say, a US spec kit.I have some friends in the UK that are drummers and I will send one of them a link to this thread and perhaps he may know a good shop in the UK that may have knowledge of some of these drums used or the like. ThanksD
