Members modulusman
Just wondering what would be a good mic for kick that would also work well for micing a bass cabinet. We just got a new drummer who doesn't own any mics. I have a cheap kick mic that I bought at a garage sale for $15.00 (Eqaution audio}. It sounds alright but our old drummers Audix D 6 sounded much better. I would like one that also works well for micing a bass guitar cabinet in case I ever wanted to do it. Members scharris_99
If you liked the D6, why not get another? As for a just in case mic, that's more of an SM57 type task which can and has been be used for almost anything.
Members srp72ee
The ATM250 works well for bass cabinets and kick drums. The D6 is fine too.
Members americansinner
I have a AKG D112 and CAD KBM412. I have used them both for kicks, low toms, and bass cabs. I've always found the results pleasing.
Members djiceman1575
We used Sennheiser e602's at recording school, it was great as far as I could tell. Several people I have talked to have also seconded the Audix D6 for kick, which I will probably buy one very soon...

Members Axisplayer
Buy one of the commemorative ATM25 mics while you can. It is very good. Not as cheap as some others, but worth what it costs. It is one of those mics that you can keep and always be glad you did.

Members RoadRanger
The D6 has a "color" made for the "Gladd" kick sound - I'd rather have something flatter for a bass cab like the D112. That mic can sound great on kick too if you have the right kind of EQ, definitely needs a decent HPF someplace in the chain, damned thing goes down to 20 or some such and will eat your sub power and/or subs right up . Members agedhorse
I use a D-112 for a doorstop, works pretty well except for when the winds pick up or the shop dog lifts his leg on it. ATM-25 is my go to kick mic for the types of music that I do regularly.
Members BigMac5
I would say an EV RE-20, it's not mid scooped like most dedicated kick microphones so it will work great on a bass cab.
Members modulusman
Thanks for all the responses guys. I wound up getting a D6. I bought it because 2 of the last 4 drummers I have played with used one and we always got a good sound. Also it was what my local music store had in stock. I was able to get one for $175.00. The ATM25 looks like it would have been a great choice but I would have had to order it and I have 2 gigs this week that I needed a mic for.
