Phil O'Keefe
Hey everyone... an old friend of mine is working on a low-cost GPS unit for touring bands to help them protect their trailers and gear. He has a brief 4 question survey he's trying to get more people to take and I told him I'd see if we could get some input from the community members here at Harmony Central. All bands and musicians are welcome to respond, so feel free to share this with your friends too if you'd like. The plan is for them to set up IndieGoGo campaigns for each band that wants one so that the bands can get them at zero cost. It sounds like a cool idea to me, and I thought some of you might be interested as well. Members StratGuy22
Nice. I use the puck style locks, they seem really solid. I'm interested in the GPS setup, it looks promising. I have tile but it's not GPS
Members Screaming Stone
Thanks for posting this Phil! StratGuy22 has the right idea. Puck style padlocks are KEY to protecting your gear in a trailer. I have results of the National Center for Explosives Training and Research padlock breaching test on http://www.ScreamingStone.com - It takes thieves less than 15 seconds to cut through a shackle style lock. (They did the test after a bunch of explosives storage units were broken into.) The problem is when thieves take the whole trailer. That's when GPS helps. Bluetooth locators, like Tile, have only a 100 foot reach. Our plan with GPS is to get them to the bands for free. I used to tour, I know how tight the budget is. It's an extension of the free stolen instrument recovery service, Screaming Stone, that I've been doing for the past several years. Take the survey, let me know what you think. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/N773Z5X

Members StratGuy22
I got them where I bought my trailer from. Word is, you can get them at RV stores. Here's some on eBay. I searched "Trimax lock" I paid $100 for 3. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=201106194695 Trimax 3 Pack Keyed Alike "Hockey Puck" Enclosed Cargo Trailer Door Lock Padlock
Members GtrGeorge!
One cheap security idea is to use a good lock, keep the truck within earshot and also....tape the end of a cartridge box right next to the big lock.
Members Screaming Stone
@StratGuy22 - that set is Keyed Alike - it's a replicated key, same key for those three locks in your set and many other locks. You're better off getting Keyed Different - unique key for every lock (or at least better odds of being different).3 pin core: from 10 to 40 key differs4 pin core: about 250 key differs5 pin core: about 1,100 key differs6 pin core: over 5,000 key differs
