Members Dr. Scottie C
If you could only play one gauge of electric strings the rest of your life.......which would it be??
Members wankdeplank
Tens all the way. Great tone, sustain and durability and I can't remember the last time I broke a string which is extra important to me since I like my trems floating. Members inu
11... at least. I'm not a crazy string bender.
Members onelife
My preference is 10-52 but since I had a bout with tendentious a few years ago I had to change my playing style a bit and my strings to 9-46.
Members humbuckerstrat
9-46, but I don't know if that would go in the 9s category or the 10s.
Members knotty
Currently trying d addario balanced tension 10's on the strat. Must say they feel like keepers so far.I feel I can bend more accurately than 9's.
Members Dr. Scottie C
Wow? No 8's users??? No 12's users? In the 80's and early 90's I think 8's were about the most popular size among musicians I knew.
Members Vinhoff
I've settled on 10's over the years used 9's forever then Hybrids for maybe 10 years and 10's for the last bunch.
Members Ed the Dog
Primarily I play a newer Melody Maker and don't press hard. Haven't tried 12s, but 11s sound clearly better than 10s or 9s. And, sound for me trumps feel. I'm 46 by the way.
Members DeepEnd
I'm using 9's now and I could live with them for the long haul.
Members speakerjones
Depends on the guitar. Most have 10's though.
Members Jkater
Your question so formulated implies one gauge for whatever guitar or scale lenght. That's not gonna happen. For me I want an similar tension for all guitars and I even put 9.5-44 on my 25" scale guitar. 9-46 (hybrid) on "Fender" scale and 10's on Lp scale. Members Caffeinated Cat
Been using 9's most of my life but now that I'm mostly playing blues I'm thinking of switching to 10's. On one guitar at least.

Members LARRY L
10's seem to work well for chords and leads. Too thin and I warp chords, too thick and I cant bend well.
Members Chordite
I was 9 for a long time but I found the 9 notes too weedy compared to on the G and B strings. 10s seem to balance that better

Members Radar-Love
Depends on the scale length and sometimes the particular guitar...
