Members Piano Whore
Actually, they would have loved to have me play with them, but for free while they made $100 each. No self-respecting whore would stand for THAT. But I could tell they were hoping for me to provide a keyboard rig for the jam, in case a keyboard player showed up. No problem! This is what they saw when they got there: 12" of raw analog power! Also has some killer rhumba, cha-cha and swing rhythms, in case they wanted to fire the drummer, make EVEN MORE money, and improve their groove all at the same time. I even provided a 1/4" adapter for the 1/8 " mono headphone out, although mic-ing the built-in speaker was another option. But after all that I found out that my biker friend "Hobo" wanted to tickle some ivories, and was having difficulty transporting his piano and amp on his Harley, so I relented somewhat and expanded it with my backup 61-key Yamaha. Have not heard from anyone so far, as to how the night worked out.
Members nchangin
Uhh not a keyboard player, so help me out. Am I correct that that is a crappy keyboard? Like one of those you get in 5th grade that's not pro equipment? Can I ask why you were left out and if you were left out did you take it personally by chance?? lool. Members Piano Whore
@nchangin, yes it's a toy, pre-digital, no-name keyboard that a friend gave to me. RE the jam, the club owner had no reason to think there would be much turnout so wanted to keep expenses low. The other band members don't work for less than $100 a night (and I generally don't either), so no pay. Plus there are a couple usual suspects that like to sit in in my place. The prior Sunday I did play a couple free sets but already had my gear in place from playing the weekend, so it was a different situation. Word is that attendance was better than previous week but still slow. I wish them the best and hope it continues to build. The reality is that I play a less-necessary instrument although I do alot of extra kinds of gigs while they are pretty much limited to playing in bar bands. Thinking I will steal the girl singer away for some cabarat-type gigs, since she gets left out too. No revenge there, NOOOO.

Members Piano Whore
Happy to report that my hurt butt has successfully healed, however NOT so happy to report that my prior information was misleading and that the night was in fact, a total failure for attendance and participation. That vindicates the decision to leave me out.Now that I've had my fun, I intend to make the next Sunday a success by setting up my (currently unused) Korg M50-88 and also by trying early on to enlist players and party people to come out. I wish there were more HC'ers in the area but the only 2 I know of are Clifton (last encountered at the veterinarian's office) and JCPatte, who seems to be an apparition but probably just has better things to do than hang out at cavernous biker disco-tonks. Hoping I can get Clifton to show up and favor us with some swamp rock. There shall be JAMS and rumors of JAMS....

Members Piano Whore
To follow up, the open mic is doing better last 2 weeks. Pulling in some new faces and talent as well as old. I haul in my back-up keyboard rig (owner furnishes a powered speaker), play about a set, then go home (I live 6-7 minutes away) while the other guys take over. Come back in a couple of hours, play a little more and have a good time, the owner gives me $50 for my trouble and all is well.
