Members lousy hero
Hi, Im currently restoring my Gibson Ripper wiring and I am working of this diagram but I would like to remove the 'out of phase' setting and replace with a more usable 'neck only' setting instead. Electronics are not my strongest point and this rotary switch is a real head scratcher so if anybody can see which connection I have to make or break on the rotary switch that would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Moderators isaac42 Posted February 14, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 14, 2014 No problem at all. Note that the neck pickup is not grounded, so you'll need to do that, but only in the position you want to be neck only. I'll assume position 4, at least for now. In your diagram, the neck pickup is the upper one. Connect the wire that goes to positions one and three on the upper switch deck to pin 4 of the second deck, so that it will be grounded in position 4. Then disconnect the wire from pin 4 of the upper deck that goes to pin 3 of the middle deck and pin 1 of the lower deck. The positive output of the neck pickup is already connected to pin 4 of the upper deck, so that should do it.
Members lousy hero
Thank you for the reply and detailed instructions. I think I may understand as It sounds like I have to move the positions of the yellow wire on the switch? However I am not 100% sure on the deck position terminology. Sorry for my dumbness. It seems the numbers on the switch diagram that go 7 > 12 > 1 need to be moved? It seems a basic modification and yet I'm to stupid to work it out! Least my finishing skills are my strong point I guess. Thanks and any more clues would be much appreciated.
Moderators isaac42 Posted February 15, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 15, 2014 I have no idea what colors your wires are. Similarly, I can't read the numbers on the diagram you posted. You'll have to look at the wiring in your bass and determine how they correlate with the diagram.
Members WilliamV
Are all of these diagrams for the Ripper bass the same? I have tried to find any differences in them, but have been unable to. I was just wondering why there were so many the same. If they ARE all the same. ??? I am in the process, once I find a useable diagram; Which I think that I've found with this/these; of rewiring one. Thanks, William
