The 292 has 605 voices as opposed to 487 for the 293 but the 293 has the Education Suite (if you want that). Other than that they are almost the same. The 293 has USB only which may be a disadvantage in some cases. I wouldn't personally get either of them as they don't have full XG and don't have full finger mode when using the styles.
