Members noisexcore
(noob alert, like all of my questions) What's the difference between a sampler and a sequencer? I'm getting my first keyboard/synth, and I'm going to buy a sampler a little later. Should I get a keyboard that has a sequencer? I want to be able to make little techno beats for parts of songs and I want to be able to have them play by hitting one button(after I've made them of course). So do I need a sampler or sequencer? Members Yoozer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_sequencer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_sampler In other words, they're 2 completely different things. You're going to need a sequencer to actually write, play back, record, and store songs (just the note information, not the actual sounds), and you'll need a sampler if you want to record your own instruments or loops. A sampler/sequencer workstation has the sequencer usually as default, and the sampler as a bonus. The Korg M1 was one of the first workstations; and it didn't have a sampler. The E-mu Emulator was one of the first (affordable) samplers, but didn't have a sequencer.
