Members Carcinogen Posted June 2, 2008 Members Posted June 2, 2008 I was offered one for $500, and I was just curious as to why I would want to buy it, other than the obvious sex appeal reasons Do the new re-issues suffer from the same 'strat pickups in sheeps clothing' that the CIJ Jazzmasters have? And how about the electronics? I've heard that the Jazzmasters have crappy pots, so why would the Mustang be any difference? Your opinions, please. Its the Daphne Blue model, by the way, which I find very lovely. I think I'll keep this one the same color, unlike what I'm currently doing to my Lake Placid Jazzmaster.
Members PumpkinPieces Posted June 3, 2008 Members Posted June 3, 2008 I tried one out, I really enjoyed playing it but the stock pick ups didn't have enough bite for me. However its playability was very good, great neck and everything. I chose one of the new Mexican Jazzmasters instead due to more versatility in sound. The mustang didn't sound like a strat though to me, however I might change the pick ups if I had the cash. I play punk/grunge/alternative kinda stuff. hope I could help.... and you may want to post this in a different section....
Members kingsransom Posted June 3, 2008 Members Posted June 3, 2008 I don't think they are anything like the original 60's Mustangs. If I were you, I'd spend a bit more for the real deal.
Members redearedslider5 Posted June 3, 2008 Members Posted June 3, 2008 might just be me, but i think electronics are close to nothing to be considered when buying a guitar. especially pots and switches, you can replace that stuff for a few bucks and an hour or so. pickups you can find cheap on craigslist and such. just as long as it plays and looks how you want, go for it.
Members Carcinogen Posted June 3, 2008 Author Members Posted June 3, 2008 I was wondering more whether or not a $500 price tag was good or not, if I was getting something that plays like a mustang or only looks like one. I dont care too much about the pickups, thats what our good friend Seymour is for.

Members Danne Posted July 3, 2008 Members Posted July 3, 2008 They do play like original mustangs. Have played two of them, side by side. The Re-issues are a bit more on the bright side, (mustangs are bright guitars, but the reissue is a little more bright) but actually, the R.I. neck feels better and the trem too (maybe cuz its newer, you know) It's basically the same guitar. The subtle differences are those I mentioned.
Members q-4000 Posted July 3, 2008 Members Posted July 3, 2008 now the JagStang that was a nice guitar!
