Archtop V

Up for sale is a very special and very unique instrument. The Arch V is a fully hollow archtop guitar inspired by the Flying V. The body and neck are made of lightly flamed Rock Maple, the top is a beautiful piece of Western Red Cedar, and the fingerboard/fittings are of Cocobolo. All the fittings are gold, including the floating humbucker and the output jack socket which is conveniently located inside the upper horn of the "V". The neck has a "V" profile to it, which makes it very comfortable to play, especially with roundwound strings as pictured. To protect it, you'll also get a case as part of the deal.

Dealers at the Dallas Guitar Show felt that $1500 is a fair value for this instrument. The finish is done in layered shaders, which have rubbed through at the heel a bit, otherwise this would go for much more. I'm letting it go for $1000 on Craigslist, or $800 to a forumite.

Thanks for looking. Now buy it!

Swing covers of rock tunes seem fairly popular these days. This is what you'd need to play for a band like that. The fleur de lis is a classy touch, too. What a lovely guitar- the more I look at it, the more I want it and I have no good reason to want it seeing as I don't play jazz/hollowbody guitars OR Flying Vs.

Plugged in it sounds like just about any other archtop hollowbody with a Kent Armstrong Humbucker. I've got flatwounds on it now, and you get that traditional tone out of it. Unplugged, it sounds like an archtop with flatwounds on it! I haven't tried Zebras yet, but I would guess it would help get more of the acoustic tone out of it.

When playing seated, you use the traditional V position with one wing between the legs, and it works fine. Standing, it balances pretty well on the strap, but your arm really has no where else to go but on the top wing which holds the neck up anyway.
