Members The4thlast1 Posted February 25, 2009 Members Posted February 25, 2009 I bought a brand new ENGL Thunder combo. It's the 1x12 with reverb version. It's the best sounding combo Ive heard so far. At the moment I could use some cash for other things and would like to sell it or trade for a combo of lesser value and cash. It is in new condition, not a mark on it, light use on the tubes and I only bought the amp a few months ago. These sell new for $1300. Comes with all factory packing and Manual Your Choice of Eminence Swamp Thang speaker that is in the combo now. I prefer the amp with this speaker, I have tried several different ones. Or you can have it with a Celestion V30 which normally ships with the amp from Engl. http://rocksolidamps.com/index.php?contain=description&ii=48&mid=2 To buy it outright I'm asking $800 plus shipping

Members Obelisk Posted April 25, 2009 Members Posted April 25, 2009 What kind of sound does this amp have? I own the Ritchie Blackmore and it is a hi gain head. Is this a more of a moderate gain head or classic and low gain?
Members The4thlast1 Posted April 25, 2009 Author Members Posted April 25, 2009 Ok I'm gonna give the low down on this amp , Basically it is a do it all kind of amp. Nice clear cleans like all the Engls have. The amp in general has a open sound to it. It is not very compressed like say a Powerball. However it has a lot of gain available, the more gain you add it will go from a open bluesy, crunch type of sound to an all out Metal sound. When you add a lot of gain you do get some compression. My band is a Modern melodic type of Metal band and I have no problem gettin the Brutals out of this thing. I have been using it at home to practice but it could easily be used for a gig. It can get very loud but it's always a clear tone. Like I said before you can shape the tone of this amp to alot of different styles. The treble knob really does alot because when you have it set low the amp takes on a warm singing sound and when you set it higher it cuts on fast rhythms. Either way it doesnt get harsh. It may sound like Im tryin to hype this thing up to sell it but you asked so Im tellin you what I think of it. If you do a search under my screen name you can see I have said great things about this amp in the past. I will miss it but at the moment I need some cash.
Members Obelisk Posted April 26, 2009 Members Posted April 26, 2009 Thanks, my friend was interested in it but didn't want a super hi-gain amp. He's played my Engl and loved the clarity. I'll forward this message to him.

Or at least I would say it is similar because it can do the rock and blues stuff as well as high gain metal. It doesnt have that super scooped sound like the PB or channel 3 of the Invader it has a good amount of mids available.
