Members Cliff Fiscal Posted April 23, 2009 Members Posted April 23, 2009 I have for sale a professionally modded Bogen CHB-10A head. It's an old tube amp modded for guitar use. It's got (1) 6v6 power tube and one preamp tube. The controls are GAIN, TONE, and VOLUME. Which allows you to dial in either sweet clean tones with power amp muscle or classsic rock crunch....all at normal bedroom volumes. It's got a 1/4" input, and multi-impedance output speaker out (1/4"). So it works with normal guitar/head/cab type cables. Did I mention it has Point-to-Point wiring too? The preamp circuit has been modded to more of a Marshall type thing. To be honest, it sounds a lot like my Plexi, and the JTM I've played. Of course, it doesn't have the sheer volume of either of those amps.....so it's more useful in the studio. I would say the amp could hang with a mellow drummer......but a heavy handed meat pounder drummer will need PA back up. I figure $225 shipped and paypal'd is fair.......especially in the days of cheap overseas amps. You can get a nice quality amp for the same price....if not less!!!

Members southtexslinger Posted April 23, 2009 Members Posted April 23, 2009 how loud would you say this little sucker gets? how bad does she hum?
Members Cliff Fiscal Posted April 23, 2009 Author Members Posted April 23, 2009 It's pretty quiet actually....but just as noisy as any good tube amp when cranked full blast. It's a quality amplifier. As for volume, I would say it can hang with a mellow drummer. It's not going to be able to hang with a power drummer with meat fists. It would work great for studio work, gigs with monitors and a PA. The tone is really nice for such a small amp.
Members Cliff Fiscal Posted April 25, 2009 Author Members Posted April 25, 2009 Okay, I just jammed on it again......and it's fairly loud.....as loud as any other 5w amp. Fully cranked it was enough to hurt my ears. The best part about this amp is the ability to dial in higher gain tones at lower volumes. Since it has a gain control and a volume control. The tone is decidedly vintage. With the gain control up higher think cranked Fender. Clean it sounds similar to my Super Reverb..... chimey, full and clear. It doesn't lack low end like most smaller amps....that's for sure. To be honest, after playing it today....I don't want to sell it.
