Based on a number of emails I've recieved since I did my little overview, aparently a lot of people don't realise that Serge Modulars are still being made.

For exact pricing and lead-times call Sound Transform Systems at (262) 367-3030

Maybe someone needs a Christmas present? Maybe you? ;)

Worth every cent. It beats a used Arp 2600 for the same cash. I saved up for a long time and eventually sold my synthesizers.com modular to fund the Animal. No regrets whatsoever.

:D :D :D :D

After a huge studio liquidation a while back, I managed to expand my Serge system by two panels.

Its one of the four pieces of gear I will never sell:

1) Serge Modular

2) Waldorf MicrowaveXT

3) Yamaha VL-1

4) DSI Polyevolver Keyboard

hmm...looks like I'll have to do a website for the VL-1 one of these days ;)

Hey Carbon!

Nice write-up! When do we get to hear some MP3's?

Why did you sell the synth.com modules? Didn't like the sound?

I took a look at your Serge page. Great idea about using digital photos to keep a record of patch cords. I'm a camera nut, but that technique never dawned on me.

Dude, pull up a chair! You're making my back hurt bending over the modular like that! Ouch!!

;)

"Nice write-up! When do we get to hear some MP3's?"

Thanks! I use some Serge in a lot of my pieces but haven't got any solo pieces handy. Listen to John DuVal's "Hell's Canyon" or just about anything by Telomere, m/n/m/l, Kevin Braheny or early Michael Stearns if you want sonic proof that the Serge is an excellent-sounding synth. :)

"Why did you sell the synth.com modules? Didn't like the sound?"

No, it sounded fine. But I wanted the flexibility and unique synthesis capabilities that I could only get from Serge or Buchla modulars...and I have some issues with Buchla (not just the price!). Also, the synthesizers.com system was just too friggin' BIG - it was starting to eat a lot of space and I really wanted to just settle on one modular system.

Well, its not foolproof but it beats making patch charts

LOL! That was at last year's Pacific Northwest Synthesizer Meeting (scroll down for pictures) - I normally have a nice comfy chair to patch from in the studio :)

Here's what my "Sergestation" looks like right now:

I like that, carbon. Everything on that desk, alone, is akin to my vision. I'd keep my Nord G2, and my PC w/ Reaktor and Max/MSP, and add a poly analog/digital hybrid, wavetable synth, and an analog modular with extensive CV control. Simply, a little of the best of everything!

It gets better:

I still want to "downsize" a little more, but I can't really bear to part with anything more...I've sold off a ton of stuff over the last couple of years or so. With a leaner setup I'm finding that I'm actually making more music.

careful wih the 'leaner setup" talk- you'll re-summon "you-know-who" :p

seriously though- your studio houses the most elegant gear porn.. those pics are always most welcome.

Yeah, I know ;)

Glad you like the pron - its actually pretty ergonomic, not just sexy.

People laugh when I say my setup is leaner but over the last year and a half, I've gotten rid of five keyboards and about 32 rackspaces of synths and outboard.

The Serge, PEK, MicrowaveXT and VL-1 will always have a home regardless of what else goes...
