This is one of my favorite scales but can't find out what it is called. I don't know the name for it exactly: If you have the major third and flattened seventh, you would play that over a D7 (as opposed to a Dmaj7) and the scale is some form of dominant scale. You have the following tones: 1, b9, 3, 5, #5, 7 Flatten the A and add an F and you have the altered scale (aka Super Locrian). The altered scale: 1, b9, #9, 3, b5, #5, 7.
Members thamiam Posted January 13, 2003 Members Posted January 13, 2003 It's the Fifth mode of the Harmonic Minor scale. Except it is missing the 4th degree (11th) which would be G natural. Don't know that it has a name outside of that.

Members thamiam Posted January 13, 2003 Members Posted January 13, 2003 Where did you look it up? I've been looking for a complete listing of all the minor mode names.
Members lazaraga Posted January 14, 2003 Members Posted January 14, 2003 an interesting thing about this scale (phryg dom) D Eb F# G A Bb C you have a dominant 7th chord (D F# A C) with a superimposed major triad (Eb G Bb) from a half step above i like to alternate this scale with lydian dominant, which has a similar thing going with a major triad superimposed from a whole step above the basic dom 7 chord. hope it makes some sense peace
