I had a friend of mine who swore by a good stress-ball.

I think some mild form of finger exercise in addition to playing is good. I think using any kind of finger exerciser moreso than guitar training could lead you off track easily.

Years ago, I wanted to improve my snap and heel kicks in my kung fu class. I asked my sifu what he thought about me adding squats to my exercise regimen:

'Sure, if you want. But if you just want to learn how to kick: just kick'.

I'm, not knocking it but... be aware of the fact that you don't need that much strength to play guitar actually. And if you do you are doing something wrong for sure. You're using far too much muscle tension then. Which is very common, I know I do it a lot.

I have one. I like it (whenever I actually DO use it though.) Back when I used it all the time, I did notice my fingers being MUCH speedier around the neck. I had so much strength in my fingers. It was quite nice actually. I don't know why I stopped using it. Oh yeah, I lost it for a while.

I give this product the thumbs up... as long as you use it ;) . It's good when you aren't at home near your guitar.

I have one in the car, I play with it once in a while, certainly helped me, Perhaps more for control and coordination than strength, as I used to do sequences and try to become aware of what muscles were working.

BACK AWAY!!!

PUT DOWN THE GRIPMASTER!!!

Those things are Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Tendonitis waiting to happen. Mild use (10 minutes a day, three days a week) may help your conditioning the finger muscels, but it is simply far too easy to go overboard with those things and do serious damage.

Stress balls or "finger yoga" are much more beneficial techniques.

Gripmasters effect everybody differently, but for the general population the risks far outweigh the benefits.
