Members gadflyer Posted April 11, 2003 Members Posted April 11, 2003 OK.... I know all my scales in every position. I know all my jazz shapes. Still I can't create any good chord melodies. Does anyone have a decent book they know of that will teach me the basics of this idea. I love the style I just can't seem to do it.
Members lazaraga Posted April 11, 2003 Members Posted April 11, 2003 best thing is to learn all your inversions, for every kind of 7th chord. start by harmonizing simple melodies and folk songs, like "amazing grace". i don't know of any books that teach this, i just picked it up myself. check out some wes montgomery chord solos for some ideas. basically all i play are chord meoldies, iv'e gotten to the point where i can sight read a line and improvise a chord melody for it. the main thing is to definitely know all your inversions. good luck peace
