Members edeltorus Posted May 10, 2003 Members Posted May 10, 2003 Hi. I added something new to my trickback over the last weeks, and I want to share them with you. The add9 arpeggio. It sounds nice, it's easy to play, easy to memorize. Best of all: it sounds neither jazzy nor bluesy. That's the pattern I play (in a-minor. lowest note is the root.) minor add9 arpeggio |----------------------------12----||------------------10-12-13--------||----------------9-----------------||---------7-9-10-------------------||-------7--------------------------||-5-7-8----------------------------| If you play this from the aeolian box position you have a nice diagonal run up to the phrygian box. That's convenient for me 'cause I tend to play my solo climax in this position (don't ask me why - it just works). Two other variants also sound nice and are just extensions to the above: minor add9 + b5Gives the arpeggio a gloomy flavour without sounding to eastern and exotic. |-------------------------------11-12----||----------------------10-12-13----------||------------------8-9-------------------||-----------7-9-10-----------------------||-------6-7------------------------------||-5-7-8----------------------------------| minor add9 + b6More on the bright and airy side. If I'm not mistaken it's equal to a maj7 add4 on the VI grade of the aeolian mode (or Cmaj7 add4 in this example). |--------------------------------12-13----||-----------------------10-12-13----------||------------------9-10-------------------||-----------7-9-10------------------------||-------7-8-------------------------------||-5-7-8-----------------------------------|
Members TubeAddict Posted May 10, 2003 Members Posted May 10, 2003 The min add 9 +6 is either the natural or hamonic minor without the 4 or 7. If you throw in the 7 of the harmonic minor, it starts to sound pretty eastern to me.
