Members riffdaddy Posted May 11, 2003 Members Posted May 11, 2003 Pitch does not exist. It is merely by random elimination of other frequencies that we arrive at what we refer to as a pitch. Therefore, only one sound exists--that of all frequencies playing together. Removing frequencies is arbitrary and meaningless. Terje, don't get mad this time.
Members TubeAddict Posted May 11, 2003 Members Posted May 11, 2003 When you consider the fourier transforms of functions with compact support, this makes a lot of sense.

Members bonaire Posted May 11, 2003 Members Posted May 11, 2003 Is this like when you turn on the light in the room, the darkness is sucked into it? As in "Hey, turn on the darkness sucker"...
Members Goody Posted May 11, 2003 Members Posted May 11, 2003 Youd certainly think so given some of the over distorted absolute crap bands are coming out with these days.

Members Brian Marshall Posted May 12, 2003 Members Posted May 12, 2003 that is it... im going to go record a whole album of pink, and white noise through various filters and effects... who needs theory. I am fairly certain that ricky martin believs there is only one note, at least he only sings one.

Members callous Posted May 12, 2003 Members Posted May 12, 2003 My thinking lately is that there are infinite notes. Our 12-tone scale consists of arbitrary signposts along an endless continuum. Next stop, 'A' 440-->but what about 441--still A? At what point does it start to become kind of "sharpish?" Food for thought.

Members riffdaddy Posted May 15, 2003 Author Members Posted May 15, 2003 You Scandanavians are a weird bunch. I played with a Finnish guitarist/violinist for a while. He was very good, but he had the weirdest taste in music. He didn't have your knack for weirdass musical theories, however.
Members SAF_Jon Posted May 21, 2003 Members Posted May 21, 2003 Geez...This is the last time I visit Lesson Loft. It's turning into OJ.
Members riffdaddy Posted May 21, 2003 Author Members Posted May 21, 2003 Yo...we're all joking with eachother. Terje and I get along pretty well.
Members ]V[etalhead Posted May 23, 2003 Members Posted May 23, 2003 What if A 440 is actually A 448 but the 8 got partially erased...

Members Little Dreamer Posted May 24, 2003 Members Posted May 24, 2003 It's actually just 440 to an observer in the same reference frame. Someone observing from a stationary point in the universe watching the Milky Way go whingin' past, doppler shifted from the velocity and all, would hear you playing an entirely different note. Maybe Ab.
