Members Redglittercoffin Posted May 28, 2003 Members Posted May 28, 2003 The gigbag book of scales for all guitarists-Compiled and edited by Joe Dineen and Mark Bridges I has a ton of scales in all keys in standard notation and tablature. I want to make up some kind of good practice routine. What can I do besides just playing the scales with a metronome and trying to learn them?
Members Goody Posted May 28, 2003 Members Posted May 28, 2003 Applying them is far more important than just playing to a metronome. First make sure you know the theory behind it , if you can relate the positions on the fretboard to the major scale (it helps a lot to relate the new scales to ones you already know , youll memorise much faster). http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=292665&highlight=jam+tracks has some good jam tracks on it , download the ones for whichever scale you want to practice and have some fun , youll be a lot more interested and focused improvising with the scale , so youll learn it faster as well as learning "out of the box" straight from the outset. I do suck at guitar though so i may be talking BS

You'll never believe it but I use to jam to Laurel Aitken (jamaican ska legend) to get some groove into my scales. Great stuff.
