Members Jones_Tone Posted June 11, 2003 Members Posted June 11, 2003 i've been playing for about a year now so i'm still pretty new to lead playing. i've almost learned every solo in metallica's "one" but there is one part where kirk hammet does a 3 finger'd pull off and i'm having some trouble doing it. here it is: 19p17p15-19p17p15-19p17p15-19p17p15- what finger would i use for each fret(number) right there. just curious. thanks
Members Auggie Doggie Posted June 11, 2003 Members Posted June 11, 2003 The fingers you use depends mostly on hand size/strength. Some players would use 3-2-1...others 4-2-1...and some even 4-3-1. Ideally you would be able to play the line equally well with all three possibilities. Of course, there's a 4th option, 4-3-2, which is impractical, potentially painful, but technically it's an option. 3-2-1 is probably the easiest, provided you can reach the notes. Otherwise, 4-2-1 would be the next choice.
Members Jones_Tone Posted June 11, 2003 Author Members Posted June 11, 2003 alright thanks a lot. would the 4-2-1 be the more "professional" way to do it because i can easliy reach that with either the 321 or the 421 option. i just saw a video for this song and kirk hammet plays it with the 421 option so i figure that would be the better way to learn it. but thank you for you help.
Members Triton Posted June 11, 2003 Members Posted June 11, 2003 19 (Fourth/Little Finger) 17 (Second Finger) 15 ( First Finger) Or if I should write down the number of each finger it should be4-2-1. When learning a phrase like that isolate that little phrase by just playing that phrase over and over. You might want to create an exercise of it.There are many ways to do it.Take that pattern 19-17-15 and repeat it over and over on different strings. You can also try to move it Chromatically to different places. The important thing is that you keep repeating that phrase with the fourth, second and first finger.
Members Little Pete Posted June 13, 2003 Members Posted June 13, 2003 If you find your hands are too small for this you could always cheat and play this as a tapping triplet pattern. Hammer the 19th with you picking hand middle finger (so you can still hold your plec) then use your left hand to do the other notes. This song does feature a fair bit of tapping (in the 2nd and 3rd solos) so you might as well get this technique down, you probably already have so never mind though.Good luck dude.
Members Jones_Tone Posted June 16, 2003 Author Members Posted June 16, 2003 yeah i've finished the first two solos and i'm in the middle of the really fast 3rd one right after the tapping ends. damn it gets hard there after the huge bend on the 22 fret (about 5:57 into the song). i have no idea how to do the the next part. hmmm.....
