Members Chris Lohr Posted June 13, 2003 Members Posted June 13, 2003 I think it would be cool if you guys would post some ideas for blues playing, or just some cool licks, aimed at any level of playing you want. They dont have to be little known things... i mean, below, Im just teaching the major pentatonic idea! So heres a trick from me.______________________This is an easy one, beginners will be able to learn this probably, after theyve learned the minor pentatonic scale. MAJOR PENTATONICS Major pentatonics add a whole new sound to blues soloing. I find that they work best when mixed with minor, Ive never actually soloed JUST major.Really, you can look at it like this: say you are soloing in A. To get the major pent. scale, just move the minor down 3 frets - thats the major. HOWEVER, it is not that simple. You will learn certain parts of the scale that sound "right", ans certain parts that dont. This is because you are probably used to using the roots of the minor, and with the major you are not using different parts of the scale for the roots. This lick that I play in the attached file around 12 seconds: ) unzip it, and listen to it with your mp3 player. I had to zip it in order to attach it.
Members Chris Lohr Posted June 14, 2003 Author Members Posted June 14, 2003 Heres a lesson on simple blues turnarounds. Turnarounds make the solo connect together more. Theyre mainly used in over the red chords:I-I-IV-IV-I-I-I-I-IV-IV-IV-IV-I-I-I-I-V-V-IV-IV-I-I-I-V These turnarounds are basic ideas that you can build on. The attached file has the 5 turnarounds in 1 MP3. 1) The blues chord progression followed by this turnaround: ) and is miked from an unplugged strat.
