Members don_the_mon Posted July 21, 2003 Members Posted July 21, 2003 Having abit of trouble playing minor E-based barre chords on my acoustic e.g: e-1b-1g-1d-3a-3E-1 I can barre it cleanly, but after about 2 minutes playing a progression my hand starts to get knackered. Anyway, whilst playing this form my second finger is always tense as it would be if I was fretting with this finger. Should it be relaxed or not? Just trying to minimise the energy that I waste playing these chords. Ah well, back to it.
Members Fantastic_Madd Posted July 21, 2003 Members Posted July 21, 2003 Muscle probably just needs to be developed. I jammed with this kid a lot that played a lot of punk and my hands weren't used to constantly barreing throughout a song. Sometimes I would have to stop in the middle because my hand got so tired. But after a while, I had no problem. Don't kill yourself over it, but practice with it and it'll come easy.
Members peckhart Posted July 22, 2003 Members Posted July 22, 2003 Are you playing on an electric or acoustic guitar? Barring on acoustics can be much more demanding after a while. Also, what kind of music are you playing? As Fantastic_Madd indicated.....punk is about the only type of music where you are playing bar chords or power chords the whole time.Maybe try substituting some open chord fingerings in where you can so that your arm and hand can move around a little and not cramp up.
Members don_the_mon Posted July 22, 2003 Author Members Posted July 22, 2003 Thanks for the advice fellas. Peckhart - whenever I do incorperate open chords into a barre chord progression my hand can carry on for much longer. I just want to be able to barre solidly for a good length of time being as it has taken roughly a year to get where I am now. Thanks again!
