Hi.

Please recommend me some songs to listen at.. I'm not looking for early rock'n'roll, not stones stuff, but not metal either..

More the harder rock stuff. Think about fat, sweaty, bearded men, beer and whisky, harleys ect.. stuff those guys would appreciate :)

I really suck at playing those 'cause I always did the blues thing. Found that out last week at the rehershal when we started to jam. I can't rock at all, everyt solo I played sounded like a old bluesman trying to play hardrock (and failed big time).

Thanks,

Nils

A good solo to study and learn from (in my opinion) would be something like what Slash does in Sweet Child O'mine.

Take a listen (I'm sure you've heard it before) and don't get discouraged in 10min....this solo should probably take at least a week to learn and you will get much from it.

Oh, by the way, dont cheat and go get the TAB anywhere. Learn your stuff by listening and playing...and you will reach that infamous "next level" that separates the men from the boys...

Thanks folks.

I'll take a look at these.

Except for Cream.. I don't like them. Some of their songs are fantastic, but the original cream recordings suck big time..

I want to suggest you to listen to the solos played by W. Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy. The band is often considered very underestimated by the public, since the only visibility they got was with the '76 hit The Boys Are Back In Town, but if you ask famous professional musicians you'd be surprised how many quotes the Lizzies as a youth source of inspiration.

Scott Gorham plays simple but beatiful solos. My first guitar teacher 10 years ago (snif...) used to propose me many of them as first soloing exercise.

At the same time, at least the albums Jailbreak, Johnny the Fox and Bad Reputation are old-fashioned very good listening! :) And you can use them to exercise in the rhythmic guitar too, with their very enjoyable rock-funky mixture.

Another source is definitely Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, but I feel like you may find them too slow for your taste. Well, they are slow in fact, but not so easy with the expression, and they'll provide a good practice especially on bending.

If you feel like challenging yourself more, try Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler, although you won't have the same sound if you use the pick.

These 3 guitarists are the ones I exploited when I first soloed! :)
