Members nonreglA Posted August 29, 2003 Members Posted August 29, 2003 Here's a neat 2/5 turnaround trick that I use once in a while for tunes like "Another You". Say you're in the key of Eb. The 2/5 would of course be Fm7 and Bb7. What I do is play the 2 as a normal Fm7 but at the 13th fret: (below is NOT tab, it's the guitar neck) Fm71) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - mute2) - - - - - - - - - - - - x - - - - note=C (5th)3) - - - - - - - - - - - - x - - - - note=Ab (m3rd)4) - - - - - - - - - - - - x - - - - note=Eb (7th)5) - - - - - - - - - - x - - - - - - note=Ab (m3rd)6) - - - - - - - - - - - - x - - - - note=F (root) Now the trick is to play a Bb13b9 instead of a regular Bb7. Sliding into it from the Fm7 is oh so easy (you're already there!) Bb13b91) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - mute2) - - - - - - - - - - - x - - - - - note=B (b9)3) - - - - - - - - - - - x - - - - - note=G (13)4) - - - - - - - - - - - x - - - - - note=D (3rd)5) - - - - - - - - - - x - - - - - - note=Ab (7th)6) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - mute Try it. It sounds really jazzy and is perfectly legitimate. Granted there is no root in the Bb but the flavor is still Bb. And here's a sonic treat just cause it's Friday:simon jarrett clip PS: Sonic treat has nothing to do with the 2/5 turnaround, just some nice playing.
