Members Terje Posted October 9, 2003 Members Posted October 9, 2003 This is a way of playing a slow blues solo that I use from time to time. It's not the most adventureous but it works. It helps if you can play slide too. Play a blues melody of your choice. Take for instance the first melody to St. Louis Blues. Play it with a slide if you can. Around this melody you play simple fills (and here you don't use the slide ), like you would if you were complementing a singer. End each 12-bar with a solid standard turnaround. If the solo isn't longer than 2 choruses you can repeat the same turnaround, it gives your solo continuity. You can of course do variations on the melody The point is that this sounds good. It's not the most creative solo I can think of but it sure beats the aimless noodling I end up doing a lot of times.
