Members ActorJ Posted March 31, 2004 Members Posted March 31, 2004 I was browsing a few beginner level guitar books today. I don't have my guitar yet, but when I do get it I want to have a good book with me so I can get started right away. One that seemed good was "Teach yourself Visually: Guitar". Also, very breifly looked through Guitar for Dummies, and a "KIS" Keep it Simple book that I can't remember the exactl title but it had a forward by Bill Wyman. Wonder your opinions on these books, as well as any other recomendations. I AM a visual learner, and while I can usually grasp textual explanations, it takes me a LOT longer, and can be frustrating.
Members bassmantele Posted April 3, 2004 Members Posted April 3, 2004 I've heard good things about the Guitar for Dummies book. The Guitar Handbook by Ralph Denyer is a good one that I have. It's an all-around book with basic music theory for guitar, chord charts, and lots of assorted stuff. It's usually available at Barnes and Noble and Borders bookstores.
Members Longhair Posted April 3, 2004 Members Posted April 3, 2004 I would have to say from personal experience to get The Boogieman Guitar Method because of the style it is written. A lot of the beginner's books I have seen are basiclly
Members Durango_Kid Posted April 4, 2004 Members Posted April 4, 2004 ROCK Guitar for Dummies is also a great book. Always get an accompanying cd whenever possible.

Members Kaizen Posted April 6, 2004 Members Posted April 6, 2004 I'd recommend "Uncle Tim's First Year", it's a terrific book. The material is presented in a straightforward way, and the writing style is really accessible.

Hey, boogieman. I just purchased your book...it'll be here next week. I'm not a beginner, but I'm hoping to use it to become more "well rounded." Are you still at the Lake of the Ozarks? I'm just north of there in Columbia, MO.
Members 1boogieman Posted April 8, 2004 Members Posted April 8, 2004 Living and playing at the lake. You'll enjoy the book, and you can reach me here to share answers or to discuss how to be "well-rounded".I have played at Mojo's, Down Under, a sporst bar southwest of town, the Lighthouse north 63 and a couple places (fern-bar) on Broadway. Lemme know if you are headed to the lake so I can give you directions to a gig. Playin' somewhere most every weekend. And visa-versa.There are alternate tunings to explore and here's a tune that uses the "E" tuning:http://www.soundclick.com/bands/9/theboogiemanandbren.htm a beginner could play the rhythm guitar part with one finger
