Members apokas Posted June 25, 2004 Members Posted June 25, 2004 When I see the : -------------- -------x------ -------x------ -------x------ -------x------ -------x------ Can you please explain to me what excactly I have to do to get that sound? When I use my left hand to mute the strings and strum them I will get a harmonic ringing tone instead of the "juka juka" it is supposed to do (sorry for the stupid description ...i couldnt think of anything else to describe the sound) When I palm mute the strings to stop the harmonics and play it it sound`s more like "omphh" instead of the "juka juka" (that really sounds stupid I hope I get my message through to you) What should I do to make it sound perfect?
Poparad Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Use all 4 fretting hand fingers to mute, and make sure to span a couple of frets in order to avoid sounding a harmonic node.
Members 335clone Posted June 25, 2004 Members Posted June 25, 2004 You should be able to play those muted notes without producing a harmonic. Either play them where there are no harmonics (like NOT at the 12th fret), or turn down your gain. Poparad is correct, but you should be able to hold a chord shape and relax a bit without having to lay 4 fingers across all the strings.

The alternation of strumming a chord and strumming muted strings gives you that funkiness. from the other muted thread
Members Nickdel Posted June 25, 2004 Members Posted June 25, 2004 as 335 said, when strumming, don't put your fretting fingers anywhere near a natural harmonic - 5th fret, 7th fret, 12th fret
Members apokas Posted June 25, 2004 Author Members Posted June 25, 2004 The harmonics seem to pop out from anywhere I play. Of course they do come out at their best when the gain is high but some songs im trying to learn now require both high gain and this strumming pattern. The spanning of the four fingers and laying them all down seems to work perfect but this leaves me in a bit of a problem since the specific part im talking about I must do 3 differend barre chords and strum xxx`s in between. (in 16th notes). If I just relax the chords harmonics pop out. Edit: A thing I noticed..the tube amp I have will not pop out harmonics but the pedal will. So I will have to check the gain factor afterall.
