Members Terje Posted July 2, 2004 Members Posted July 2, 2004 Stay on one song for a whole half an hour. Play the melody until there's not way you could make a mistake. Learn the chords and arpeggios too. Make up your own versions of the melody. A harmony part.
Members Terje Posted July 3, 2004 Author Members Posted July 3, 2004 Not for a jazz player either. But if that's all you've got in one day then this can be a good way to use it. Then the next day you can come back to the same tune for another half hour. Or maybe even a full hour if you're wife is out shopping
Members MorePaul Posted July 4, 2004 Members Posted July 4, 2004 I'm not a huge fan of breaking up a (complicated) piece for performance practice. Sometimes during the initial familiarization, yeah, one breaks a pice into defined sections and works on those> Then during performance practice, one really needs to hit it uninterrupted and that does tend to take longer than 30 minutes. I find 30 minute chunks good for practicing physical technique or maybe some sight reading as opposed to an actual piece
