Members Mr. Corpse Posted July 2, 2004 Members Posted July 2, 2004 I'm trying to play a steady 1/8 notes bassline with my thumb (taling bout my right hand off course) while playing a melody with my other fingers on my acoustic guitar. But it's not really working out for me, my fingers aren't independent, it must be possible though. If you can do this, how did you learn it?Any tips or good exercises? Thanks so much!
Members PSA Posted July 3, 2004 Members Posted July 3, 2004 I don't learn the two lines like they are separate because I run into the same problem. What's worked for me in the past is to go really (REALLY) slow and play the whole thing together when i first pick up the piece. That way I get a feel for the syncopation and things and how the notes fit together in the piece as a whole. Does that make sense? Like I'll sit there and count the rhythm outloud (just so long as no one's watching. )
Members MorePaul Posted July 4, 2004 Members Posted July 4, 2004 There's a whole body of technique surrounding this. You may want to check out a little classical guitar technique to get comfortable with this The Carcassi method is fairly standard. I would suggest lessons however as you are looking at mechanics
Members slindsey Posted July 4, 2004 Members Posted July 4, 2004 First, let me just say...this isn't my strong point either. I've just recently taught myself how to do this. But what works for me, is to write the song down in tab....then play from the tab (READING IT). By doing this, I think of the bass note as more of a part of the melody note that falls on the same beat, rather than a seperate thing. Probably not the most efficient way, but it works for me.
