Any good software for writing music in standard notation?

Our band wants to register a few original songs and they require us to present the music in standard notation ... we only have the recordings and a few chord charts.

Is there any good software out there for that purpose? I'll probably have to do the job but I'm way out of practice reading and writing music so anything that is beginner friendly would be most appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Finale is the industry standard program for notation, but it can be a bear to learn. I use Finale myself, but I've spend many hours fiddling with the program to figure out how to use it.

An alternative to Finale that is more user-friendly is a program called Sibelius. For what you're looking to do (just some quick lead sheets) Sibelius might be an easier option.

Both programs are good. I prefer Finale myself as I can do more with it, and since it's the one people tend to have, there's the whole compatibility thing that's a plus.

There is a free version of Finale (Finale Notepad). I use it from time to time, it is fairly simple. You can search on google for it.

And if you are writing symphonies. I'm using it for my current music for screen classes - full conductors score and parts - easy.
